When you play through Honkai: Star Railway, you can pick up one or two Light Cones. These are the equivalent of weapons in the game, which means that leveling them up and leveling them up will greatly improve your party’s performance in battle. However, keep in mind that you can only equip a Light Cone on a character if they have the same Path.
In the lore, Light Cones are the memories of the characters, but in physical form. The Garden of Recollection, the worshipers of Aeon Fuli, are the people behind this technology. So each Light Cone is actually someone’s memory. The recognizable characters start appearing from rarity 4 and 5 stars. This is very similar to how Craft Essences work in other mobile games Fate/Great Order. not like in Fate/Great Order despite this, HoYoVerse has not commissioned any guest artists to illustrate Light Cones for Honkai: Star Railway.
While Light Cones can be obtained through gacha, you can also get them through Nameless Honor or Simulated World. They also appear as drops from weekly boss battles. To level them up, you’ll need materials from the Golden Calyx. Thankfully, the Golden Cauldron, as well as the fields devoted to sublimation materials, are open daily.
Choosing to use Light Cone really depends on what you want the character to do, as well as whether you’re willing to make sacrifices. Some three star Light Cones can have really good passive abilities. But in terms of stats, it almost always loses to a rare four or five star Light Cone of the same level. You can choose to prioritize passive abilities or use Light Cone as the stat bar instead.
