St John of God Midland digitises patient flow with Telstra Health

St John of God Midland has recently rolled out the Kyra Flow digital journey boards and bed management dashboards provided by Telstra Health.

The Kyra Flow e-Journey boards provide real-time patient journey updates from admission to discharge. It integrates crucial patient information from various hospital systems, including patient admission, pathology, radiology, electronic medical records, and diet systems.

Meanwhile, the Kyra Flow Bed Management dashboards, which were implemented within the group’s operational command centre, enable monitoring of admissions, discharges, and patient flow, allowing staff to identify bed availability across wards.

WHY IT MATTERS

The 367-bed public and private hospital delivers medical and surgical care in Perth’s east metropolitan and the Wheatbelt areas. The recent clinical implementations tackle its challenges in accurately measuring and tracking real-time capacity and demand across its wards and departments, said St John of God Midland CEO Paul Dyer.

The dashboards can also potentially deliver “a multitude of efficiencies for hospital staff, from visibility across the entire patient journey to improving patient care and outcomes,” claimed Telstra Health Hospital Care Executive Chris Norton.

“Efficient and effective management of patient flow is critical to operational improvement, patient safety, and quality and care outcomes,” Dyer stressed.

THE LARGER TREND

The integration of Kyra Flow is part of St John of God Midland’s ongoing digital transformation journey with Telstra Health, which started in 2014.

Recently, it added the progress notes module to its Kyra Clinical EMR to allow staff to view and capture clinical notes.

Telstra Health has also recently delivered Medtasker to the hospital, allowing the personal care assistants of the Radiology department to move patients to and from wards more efficiently using a single consolidated task management system.

St John of God Midland now plans to expand further the rollout of both Telstra Health’s Kyra Clinical EMR and Kyra Flow to other areas of the hospital.

ON THE RECORD

“At St John of God Midland, we are continuously seeking out digital change in meaningful ways by investing in digital health for improved hospital efficiencies, patient experiences, and safety,” Dyer said about their digital transformation journey.
