Spice Consoles comforts fans after losing the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album to mainly White band
There’s one thing about the Caribbean, they’re so hard on their own! So imagine the fans’ shock after not one but four Black reggae artists were omitted at the 2022 Grammys to award the predominantly white Virginia-based band. . Finally, the band Soldier of Jah Army (SOJA) won the 2022 award for ‘Best Reggae Album’ between nominees Sean Paul, Gramps Morgan, Etana and Spice. After SOJA’s win, Spice addressed fans’ frustration through an Instagram post.

“Older people don’t cry, we’ve been together. Remember I’ve come from Homeless to this day so I’m really still humbled and grateful, I see all your support and disappointment but you know we never give up. We’ll be back tomorrow,” Spice wrote to her 3.9 million followers. “I love you all so much, watch Gracie pan Grammy little on the Red Carpet.”

Spice’s Musical History
If Spice wins her nomination, the dancehall queen will make history! Her first nomination for Best Reggae Album comes from her debut album ten, executive-produced by Caribbean legend Shaggy. She reached 14th on the reggae chart with her debut EP ‘So Mi Like It.’ In 2018, Spice made a name for herself in the reality TV industry when she participated in ‘Love & Hip-Hop Atlanta.’ She also blessed her fans with her mixtape ‘Captured’ in 2018, which climbed to number one on that reggae album chart.
A win for white Reggae artists
But numbers, experience and killer performances weren’t enough for Spice to win this year’s Grammys. Instead, SOJA’s seventh studio album ‘Beauty in the Silence’ won. Each BETTING, This is the first time a predominantly white reggae band has won this album award. With the category added about 37 years ago, SOJA’s win is now the third time a non-Jamaican person or group has won.
