Spence: I’m better when I’m against Porter or Garcia

Errol Spence Jr believes he is a better boxer than the one who beat Shawn Porter and Danny Garcia in 2019 and 2020.

It has been a dramatic and life-changing period for Spence since crashing his Ferrari in October 2019 just weeks after beating Porter by split decision.

The 32-year-old returned from serious injuries to beat Danny Garcia on points in a regular game 16 months ago and has since had eye surgery on a detached retina. Tomorrow, the Texan is aiming for three world welterweight titles as he places his WBC and IBF belts ahead of WBA champion Yordenis Ugás.

In his final press conference yesterday, the defending champion said: “When people say I can’t do this or I can’t do that, I prove them wrong every time. I am the same as I was before the accident and injury. I felt I was better than the guy who fought Shawn Porter or Danny García.

“This war may not go far. Ugás is a tough fighter. He is a man who accepts the fight and wants direct confrontation. If he had to, he would do whatever it took to win. I am that kind of person. I’m the type of guy that if I had to walk every foot, I would. If I have to stay there and fight, I will. If we go in and start fighting, I don’t think it’s going to be 12 innings.”

Spence will have the bulk of the crowd supporting him at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the NFL franchise Dallas Cowboys.

“This is my home. This is my town. I love the Dallas Cowboys to death. I love AT&T Stadium and I appreciate the hospitality they gave me and made it my home. Come Saturday night, I’ll win another championship at the Cowboys’ home field.”
