Spacer’s Choice Edition for PS5, launching March 7 – PlayStation.Blog

We at Obsidian are excited to announce an upgraded version of The Outer Worlds for PlayStation 5 – The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition. Let’s dive into some of the exciting changes we’re making to this Board-approved RPG and how we’re approaching this mission.

The Outer Worlds has been warmly received by fans around the world and won numerous awards, so having the opportunity to improve on something we know people love is a real pleasure.

If you’re not too familiar with the game, here’s a brief recap:

Lost in transit on a colonial ship bound for the edge of the galaxy, you wake up decades after your scheduled date only to find yourself in the midst of a deep-rooted conspiracy that threatens to destroy the colony. Explore Halcyon’s various planets and locations, including the mysterious Gorgon Asteroid and the delightful distillery on Eridanos. As you encounter many different factions, all vying for power, the decisions you make will determine how the story plays out.

The latest generation of consoles came out just a year after the game was first released. So for us, it made sense to refresh the base game, incorporate pre-existing content, take advantage of the latest PlayStation 5 hardware capabilities, and respond to DualSense Controller triggering to help ensure guarantee the game will last and be relevant for years to come. Thus, The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition.

Here’s how the teams did it.

Go beyond visual enhancement

Sure, improving the image is part of the deal. We were able to update to 4K, 60FPS graphics, enhance volumetric lighting, improve the particle system, and improve the environment with increased asset density. We’re also raising the bar in a few additional ways: we’re making the combat and companion AIs smarter, improving the open-world feel through better depth of field, and by reshaping the frame. existing scenes, updated to different weather conditions, and we reworked character models and animations. Don’t worry, we don’t dare touch on the core of what makes The Outer Worlds so great. There’s no point in reinventing the wheel, but new tires are always a plus.

With that said, a whole new and exciting feature set is the DualSense wireless controller’s adaptive haptics and triggers. When using ranged weapons, players will appreciate different activation effects depending on the type. For weapons like flamethrowers, the player will feel linear pressure. When firing an automatic weapon, triggering the recoil creates a pulse-like effect for each bullet fired. And for single-shot weapons such as sniper rifles or shotguns, the trigger pressure effect will mimic the sensation of pulling the trigger until the firing pin and drag are reduced. Pretty neat, right? The game will not only be more beautiful, but also sharper.

Strengthening a legacy

If the improvements we’ve described aren’t enough to justify this new release, we think this Spacer’s Choice Edition would make even more sense if it included the base game DLC. : Danger on Gorgon and Murder on Eridanos. So that’s all we can do. Now the experience is even richer! A side note: we know that some of the experiencers out there enjoy the fact that this is an accessible experience, not too short but not too long either. Rest assured, neither DLC expands the main storyline. They exist on the side, providing a new storyline to enjoy if and when you feel like it once you’ve reached the appropriate level. Oh, and we’ve raised the level cap to 99, to give players even more ways to build their character from the seven branches of the skill tree.

If you already own the base game The Outer Worlds and its related DLC, Peril on Gorgon and Murder on Eridanos, for PlayStation 4, you’ll be able to upgrade to The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition on PlayStation 5 for a discounted price. treat.*

The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition is out on March 7.
