What I personally love most about this holiday is its ability to awaken an inner romance that I don’t normally have at other times of the year. There are a few flowers that immediately put me in a romantic state of mind: roses, ranunculus, and of course, shaggy layered peonies. I love peonies so much that, when I was planning my own wedding 13 years ago, I purposely cut out some of the decorations so that I could budget for the peony bouquets on the table. his bride’s reception and bouquet. I’m an advocate for all of us to buy flowers as often as possible – but especially on Valentine’s Day. And it doesn’t have to be expensive or require any flower arranging skills. Simple, sexy lunch menu for Valentine’s Day
I kept my menu simple but indulged enough with the premium Ricotta and Raspberry Toast, followed by the most delicious chocolate cake you’ll ever devour.
The ricotta ice cream topped with delicious raspberry jam, all spread on crispy sourdough toast… it’s basically the best piece of toast you can imagine. This Ricotta and Raspberry Toast is special enough for a weekend brunch with friends, but I can’t think of a better way to enhance an ordinary weekday morning — it’s simple enough to start anytime. any.
Here’s how to do it:
- In a small bowl, combine a tablespoon of whole ricotta milk with some honey and mix well.
- Bake a piece of sourdough (or gluten-free bread) until crisp.
- Top the toast with a honeyed ricotta layer, then top with some Bonne Maman Raspberry Preserves. Use the back of a spatula to lightly spread the ricotta.
- Top with fresh basil or mint leaves and a dash of sea salt. Scent!
All you need is chocolate
This milk chocolate cake to be exact. My mom has been making a version of this pound cake for years – it requires a ridiculous amount of melted chocolate in the dough (Hershey bars to be exact) but still manages to come out light somehow, cotton sponge and metamorphose at the same time. I’ve made a few tweaks and added chocolate ganache glaze to this one, and I’ll be sharing the recipe here next week.

Since I think every gathering is better with some thoughtful conversation starters, why not use Valentine’s Day as an opportunity to go a little deeper with the one you love?
