Shelter Waiting For DNA Results To Determine If Rescued “Dogs” Are Really Dogs
Dallas police officers recently rescued an incredibly adorable puppy that was found alone, curled up and eating next to a trash can. But when they looked closely at her, they realized that it could actually be a puppy, a fox, or maybe even a coyote. They are honestly not sure.
So everyone involved decided it was in their best interest and that of the little pup to get her DNA tested so they could be sure.
The Dallas Police Department Found the stray puppy wrapping some food near a trash can south of Dallas. The handsome puppy hung out with the officers in their patrol car until Dallas Animal Services arrived on the scene. But among officers and animal services, they weren’t entirely sure whether the “dog” they found was a wolf, a dog, or maybe even another wild species.
Once Dallas Animal Services When they arrived, they took over her care and they decided to name the tan puppy Toast. Her skin tone, plus her large ears, are contributing to some people say she looks like a coyote. Others are saying that she resembles a fox. However, animal services are thinking that she is most likely a domestic dog.
“My money is in the country. If I had the money, it would be in the country,” said Jacqui Sutherland, Dallas Animal Services officer.
While Toast may look like a wolf cub, wildlife service agents aren’t entirely convinced that she’s a coyote. Their money is also on domesticated dogs. But, it’s better to be safe than sorry. Keeping wildlife wild is extremely important and if they are foxes or coyotes, they will be treated much differently than if they were domestic dogs.
The results of the DNA test will decide what happens next for this adorable little dog. If she is identified as a dog, she will be available for adoption. And, right now, there are many people lining up to potentially become her forever family. But for now, Toast is being raised by awWildlife service staff, take precautions.
Either way, Toast is absolutely adorable. It will take 10 to 14 days to determine the genetic makeup of the puppy. So all we can do now is wait.
