Senor Testaferro First Stakes Winner for Midnight Storm
Senor Testaferro became the black-type stakes winner for Taylor Made Stallions’ freshman sire Midnight Storm when he won the $61,000 Clasico Angel T. Cordero Jr. Stakes Nov. 7 at Camarero Race Track.
Rated in sixth early under Erik Ramirez, Moises Diaz-trained 2-year-old charged into second a half-mile into the six-furlong race. He then took command from leader Savaro and edged him by a half-length with six furlongs on a fast track in 1:11.61. The victory improved Senor Testaferro’s record to 3-for-5 and earnings to $57,870 for owner MC Racing.
C.H.P.R. purchased Senor Testaferro for $11,000 from the Asmussen Horse Center consignment at this year’s Texas Thoroughbred Association 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale. He is the first stakes winner of five foals from the Arch mare Carmel Beauty , a sister to 2006 Canadian Horse of the Year Arravale .
Midnight Storm, a 10-year-old son of Pioneerof the Nile , won graded stakes on dirt and turf for trainer Philip D’Amato and owners A Venneri Racing and Little Red Feather Racing. The horse’s best season came in 2016 when he won four graded stakes, including the Shoemaker Mile Stakes (G1T) and ran third in the Breeder’s Cup Mile (G1T).
Besides Senor Testaferro, other leading 2-year-olds sired by Midnight Storm include Great Escape , Easy Come Easy Go , and Electrostatic —maiden winners at Churchill Downs, Gulfstream Park, and Colonial Downs, respectively.
Midnight Storm stands for $7,500.
