Urban exploration To be one of the most interesting hobby out there. It gives people a new perspective on the cities where they live and uncovers long-buried secrets. But what do you do when you run out of urban environments to explore? When your city has no more secrets to reveal? Well, you sneak aboard an abandoned Soviet aircraft carrier being guarded in China. Clear.
At least, that’s what Bob’s words are Discover the unbeaten path do. He flew to China and swam in the dark to the Minsk aircraft carrier, where he stayed for 24 hours filming inside the ship. Minsk, that previously served as a type Brave communiststill filled with guns, ammo and MiGs for display.
The Minsk was decommissioned after an accident left the ship beyond repair outside its original port of construction in Ukraine – a Ukraine that had recently achieved independence after the collapse of the Soviet Union. It was then sold around until it fell into the hands of a Chinese amusement park company, which used it as an exhibit from 2000 until 2016.
Companies tried and failed to establish another amusement park around Minsk, leading to its current status as a (largely) abandoned hunk of metal. However, compare and contrast with the still-existing Intrepid. I guess the purpose of the “underwater military museum on an aircraft carrier” is to do with capitalism.
