Sedici ADV motorcycle gear review: Viaggio helmet and Garda WP jacket and pants

Comes with specialized motorcycles are specialized items, especially those for ADV motorcycles. The adventure bike helmet combines the features of a full-face helmet (such as a crossbar and visor) and a mountain bike helmet (such as a visor and visor). lots of ventilation holes). ADV apparel is typically made of durable textiles and provides protection from wind, rain, cold and hard objects.

Over the past year, I’ve tested several Sedici ADV gear: Viaggio helmets, Garda WP jackets and pants. “Sedici” sounds like Italian, and the products have Italian names (viaggio means “trip”; Garda is the name of the largest lake in Italy), but Sedici is an in-house brand sold exclusively by Cycle Gear and RevZilla (both owned by Comoto). The device is designed in the US and manufactured overseas in China and Pakistan.

Sedici ADV motorcycle equipment: Viaggio . helmet

The Viaggio helmet features an injection molded ABS shell, an inner EPS lining, and a removable, washable comfort liner. It features a removable top visor as well as a drop-down sunshade. The face shield protrudes just above the bottom edge, creating a wide edge on both sides for easy lifting of the shield. The face shield has a scratch-resistant coating, but it doesn’t lock when closed, there’s no locking pin for partially open positions, and it doesn’t contain a Pinlock anti-fog pad. For those who prefer to drive with goggles, the visor can be removed.

The Viaggio, which meets both DOT and ECE safety standards, is a fairly comfortable, lightweight helmet (the tested Medium weighs 3 lb, 10 ounces). The inner padding sealed enough around my cheeks and neck to reduce the worst of wind noise (although I usually wear earplugs), the large eye port offers good visibility, and the D-ring has been tested. Secure the chin strap. Thanks to the transparent visor combined with the drop-down sunshade, I don’t have to change out the colored visor when the sun goes down.

My biggest challenge with the Viaggio is ventilation. There are only three vents – one in the pointed chin bar (supported by a metal mesh) and two small holes at the top, both of which can be closed – and two at the rear. With the vents open, the helmet will move just the right amount of air for street riding on mildly warm days, but I would have liked more airflow on hot days and during riding. off-road vehicle. Driving with the face shield up and the sun visor down, or with the visor removed and goggles on, delivers significantly more air, but neither of these tactics is recommended at road speeds Highway.

Despite some shortcomings, the Viaggio is a solid adventure helmet at an affordable price. It retails for $179.99 in Mappa graphics (Italian for “map”) with terrain lines, available in sizes XS-2XL in three colors: Gray/Black/Hi -Viz (shown), Black/Gray and Sand/Black . It also comes in solid colors — Matte Black, Pearl White, and Hi-Viz Gold — in sizes XS-3XL for $149.99. Viaggio Parlare (Italian for “to speak”) comes with built-in Sena DWO-5 Bluetooth v3.0 intercom and is available in Matte Black or White colors in sizes XS-2XL for 289, 99 USD.

Sedici ADV Motorcycle Gear: Garda WP Jacket and Pants

If you’re like me, you’ve discovered the wonders of stretch fabric. Jeans, trousers, shorts, shirts and even jackets made of elastane or other stretchy fibers are more comfortable than plain cotton or polyester and are more forgiving for wide waistlines, textured handles and well-embossed pockets. While stretch fabrics are now common in casual clothing, you don’t see them as much in motorcycle clothing.

That’s why I was delighted to discover that the Sedici Garda WP Jacket and Pants are made from 600D stretch fabric with 92% polyester and 8% spandex (fun fact: “spandex” is an anagram of the word. “expansion”). The spandex material allows the garment to move easily with the body, so there are no constricting or restrictive movements. There is a waterproof membrane laminated inside the outer layer and the garment is lined with stretchy sports mesh.

While I find the jacket and pants very comfortable both on and off the bike, the pants have elastic panels along the waistband that tend to slide down. They securely close at the waist with metal hooks, metal buttons, and an adjustable hook-and-loop strap, but the strap offers only a small range of adjustment. To avoid having to pull on my pants throughout the day, I want to be able to tighten them more. Since I have a 34 inch waist, I ordered a Large size, which fits a 34-35 inch waist. I would probably be better off with Medium pants (waist circumference 32-33). If the pants have a belt, I can wear a belt, but they don’t.

Garda jacket and pants feature 1200D reinforcement zones, textured rubber panels, and CE Level 2 armor at the elbows, shoulders, and knees. Jacket with foam back padding, replaceable with optional Axial CE Level 2 back protector ($34.99) and pants with optional Axial CE Level 2 side armor pockets ($19.99). The jacket also has an external rear pocket to accommodate an optional water bag.

Ventilation, adjustability, and pockets abound. The jacket has six adjustable vents and the pants have two vents, all of which are locked with a waterproof zipper. While the vents help reduce heat somewhat, the full-cover waterproof membrane retains heat. The jacket is adjustable at the collar, cuffs, forearms, biceps, hips and waist, while the pants are adjustable at the waist and shins. The trouser leg features zipped gussets covered by a flap secured with hooks and loops, and has enough room to zip the linings on heavy ADV boots.

The jacket has a total of six pockets, including two waterproof pockets on the front and a large storage pocket on the lower back. The pants have two pockets at the waist, great for holding keys, earplugs, and other small items, but they tie bulky items like phones or wallets to the hip folds when seated. Side cargo pockets would be a welcome addition.

In addition to a few small details, the Sedici Garda WP Jacket and Pants offer the comfort and versatility needed for adventure travel in cool to warm conditions. They don’t provide adequate ventilation for hot weather, and without an insulating lining, you’ll need to add your own underlayment or heating liner in cold weather. Price is $249.99 for jacket and $219.99 for pants. Both are available in Silver/Black (shown), Sand/Black, or Black S-5XL sizes.
