Sea&Sea announces YS-D3 DUO Strobe

Sea&Sea has announced a new version of its flagship product line—the DOUBLE YS-D3. The new flashing shares all its key specifications with the original Lightning YS-D3 And Lightning YS-D3 Mark II, including: guide number (GN) of 33, standard beam angle of 110° (but increases to 150° with optional dome diffuser) and recycling time of 1.7 seconds at full power Multi. Like the YS-D3 Lightning, the new strobe light fires continuously at GN16 and returns after 0.8 seconds when shooting at GN22.

While the manual operation of the YS-D3 DUO is the same as for the YS-D3 Mark II Lightning, the new model is marked by the ability to use the OM System and Olympus cameras’ RC flash protocol, allowing shooting Exactly. TTL flash auto exposure. The indicator color on the back of the YS-D3 DUO turns red when in RC mode.

Sea&Sea YS-D3 DUO will be available from backscatterbut the price is yet to be announced.

FEATURED

Compatible with “Wireless RC Flash System”

The YS-D3 DUO is an underwater flash compatible with the “Wireless RC Flash System” of the OM SYSTEM digital camera.

“RC system” is a lighting control mode in which the camera automatically controls flash output based on brightness through the lens. Since the camera can control flash output based on digital optical signals, it can control light more precisely than the TTL mode of conventional underwater strobes. Of course, it is also possible to control the amount of light by selecting flash/no flash or by manual operation.

In addition to TTL auto shooting associated with the camera, the camera can also adjust flash output compensation during TTL auto shooting.

High performance flashing

The newly designed light emitting element and circuitry produce a powerful guide number of 33. In addition, a high-precision aspherical triangular optical lens has been mounted on the two flash tubes for dispersion. light evenly from the center to the edge. The beam angle of the strobe lights will be increased to 110° by attaching the standard Accessory Diffuser. When attaching the optional Dome diffuser, the beam angle will increase up to 150(TBD)

To avoid misunderstandings, guide number YS-D3 (GN) and beam angle are based on measurements taken on land (not underwater). Some competitors often state that the GN is measured on land and the beam angle in the water, e.g. GN 33 and the beam angle is 110 degrees. However, this GN 33 value is based on a beam angle of 60~70 degrees. The beam angle can be extended in water by a dome effect, however the GN in water is considerably lower than that measured on land.

Note: A ground flash that uses the same four AA batteries as the YS-D3 may give the designation that the GN is 60, but these measurements are made provided the focal length is equivalent to 200 mm ( = beam angle 12°). As the beam angle becomes narrower, the brightness of the illuminated area increases due to the light-gathering effect.

  • Dome diffuser (optional accessory)
Increase beam angle to 150°×170° Essential accessory when fisheye lenses are used or soft light is required. + The guide number will be reduced to –1.5EV when installed.

  • Snoot (optional accessory)
A strobe adapter narrows the angle the beam is directed at a target point. The opening diameter is 25mm. Designed with an inner prism that aligns the target light’s light axis and the strobe light’s light axis to the center.

  • Slave prism (optional accessory)
Optical device to trigger flashing lights when not using fiber optic cable. This device is intended for manual use only. This device is effective if multiple flashes are used in a fixed location. However, the flash may not fire depending on where multiple flashes occur relative to where the main flash is located.

The backlit panel is effective when shooting in dark environments. The indicator color on the back of the YS-D3 changes every time the position of the mode switch is changed. Blue (in DS-TTLII mode), Red (in RC mode), Yellow (in manual mode with front flash) and Green (in manual mode without front flash) Location of system The operating system is clear when diving at night.

The method of connection with the arm can be selected according to preference

  • YS-D3 comes with a straight ball base
The optional YS base and the new Diagonal ball base can be installed depending on the application.

  • YS base (common for YS-D1 / D2 / D3/DUO)
Traditional YS sole. Easy vertical rotation.

  • Cross ball sole (YS-DUO/D3 only)
The ball base is tilted 35° to the straight type. This makes it easier to lower the flash to the back, making it perfect for shooting when using a porch. In addition, when installing Synchronous Wire N, interference between the wire and the ball clamp is minimized.
