Scholarship for Women in STEM

The STEM field has a disproportionately low number of women in its ranks. According to National Science BoardWomen make up only 21% of engineering majors and 19% of computer and information technology majors.

Historically, STEM jobs have considered a masculine occupation, discourage women from pursuing these roles – or discourage them from being encouraged by their parents and mentors. Finances can also be an issue. Women hold about two-thirds of the nation’s student loan debt, according to American Association of College Women.

To combat these trends, a number of organizations have introduced women to STEM scholarships, including computer science and Information Technology Scholarship. Scholarships relieve financial stress on learners as they study, providing funding based on academic merit, need, and identity.

To help prospective students begin their search, we’ve highlighted some of the women in STEM scholarships.
