Satin And Silk Brings $1.4M in Foal to Justify
They wasted no time kicking off the motion Nov. 10 on the Keeneland November Breeding Inventory Sale, as E book 1 opened with the $1.4 million sale of the Galileo mare Satin And Silk, who was provided in foal to 2018 Triple Crown winner Justify on a March cover.
Claiborne Farm, agent, signed the ticket on the 4-year-old mare, whose stakes-winning dam Wildwood Flower (Langfuhr) also produced grade 1 winner Materiality and the grade 2-winning, grade 1-placed My Miss Sophia —the dam of promising Pilgrim Stakes (G2T) winner Annapolis . Consigned by Eaton Sales, agent, Satin And Silk was offered as Hip 13.
“She is for a farm client,” said Bernie Sams, stallion seasons and bloodstock manager for Claiborne. “We tried to buy a few mares last night (at The November Sale, Fasig-Tipton’s marquee breeding stock sale), but got outbid. We liked her and a couple others for today, so we will see.
“My Miss Sophia is at the farm, we know the family, so we will be keeping our fingers crossed,” Sams added. “Being in foal to Justify doesn’t hurt either. (My Miss Sophia) has a good colt, so we will see what happens.”
Bred in Ireland by John D. Gunther, Satin And Silk was a $1,237,289 purchase by M. V. Magnier from the Newsells Park Stud consignment to Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale in 2018. She started six times in Ireland in 2020 but failed to win, and was imported to the U.S. in November of last year.
