Ironically, doing that – performing in front of people – often made Waisglass nervous. In a moment of honesty, she admitted to me that she freaks out whenever she goes to an audition. But Ginny & Georgia is different. Reading aspects of Maxine, she immediately fell in love with the character. “With her quick speech, with her over-sharing, with her illness, she popped right on the page for me and I felt an immediate connection,” she said. ” she speaks. “I’ve never had that happen before. I was so excited to be in the room, and… when I entered the room, I said to the casting director, ‘How much fun can I have with this movie? How crazy can I be?’ And he was like, ‘Go crazy!’ I did, and I think that tells what Max has become. Sure, Max, in all his dynamic and eccentric glory, has become an instant fan favorite.
A full two years have passed between filming season one and two (thank you, COVID), but as soon as Waisglass gets back into the makeup and hairdressing chair, Max never seems to leave her side. “I cried,” she laughed.
It’s safe to say, though, that the Max we return to at the beginning of season two, which premiered last week, is a far cry from the bubbly 15-year-old we know and love. Still reeling from Ginny and Abby’s betrayal, and mourning her broken relationship with Sophie, Max is heartbroken, bitter, and cocky. But this season proves to be a period of her adulthood, a storyline that also makes Waisglass intriguing. “What I’m excited about, certainly near the end of the season, is that Max is more sure of herself, she knows what’s hurting her and what helps her, and she’s also setting boundaries, that’s really a great thing, especially at 15,” she said. “I didn’t even know the boundary line until I was 22, so I’m so proud of her. I think she’s very mature.”
But that’s not all and gloom for Max this season. We could see a healthy new relationship for her. “The difference is, instead of chasing after Sophie, Silver is just the one who sees [Max] and really like everything about her. [She] love her style [and] Waisglass said: There was also Max’s performance in the Wellsbury High School fall musical Wellington (certainly not Bridgerton!), proving this is yet another Waisglass scene-stealing moment. The actress added, “Max’s arc with Wellington is that she’s letting someone else take that attention, and that she understands her space and her role in life. It’s like mimicking her role on the show. We also get to see more of the relationship between Max and her twin brother Marcus (“We had some really nice scenes together”) and of course the return of MANG. “It was also what immediately drew me to the script when I first read it because I love a good female friendship and represent a good female friendship,” she said.
