Samsung Medical Center tops global health systems in HIMSS Digital Health Indicator

Samsung Medical Center in Korea has achieved the highest score globally for HIMSS digital health indicator.

Launched in 2020, DHI measures a healthcare organization’s progress in building a digital health ecosystem in four dimensions: governance and workforce, predictive analytics, and interoperability and human-supported health.

The hospital scored 365/400 for DHI.

WHY IT IMPORTANT

Through the assessment, SMC was able to identify and resolve a number of interoperability issues by launching a real-time data dashboard called the DOCC PAN system.

Jong Soo Choi, PhD, Project Leader of DHI Evaluation at SMC, said: “Our care teams can now directly check on the patient’s condition in real time and respond to events. appropriately without interruption of communication.

SMC’s visible ARS service is considered a prime example of human-assisted health. Choi explains, “When a patient calls the hospital, they are automatically directed to the visible ARS service. From there, they can make appointments and receive healthcare information via their mobile phone. his movements”.

Soon, SMC plans to launch a systematic platform that connects all aspects of DHI to “increasing the adoption rate target for each mature model and [which] can provide patients’ personal information to caregivers accurately and intuitively,” Choi also shared.

TRENDS TO BIGGER WOMAN

Although the hospital scored the highest (98%-99%) in each of the four indicators, there were still areas where SMC said it fell short of its own expectations; it is currently working to improve in these areas while also meeting the requirements for various HIMSS Digital Maturity Model assessments.

In the area of interoperability, for example, it will add changes to achieve Phase 7 for the Electronic Medical Records Receipt Model (EMRAM) and Community Care Outcomes Maturity Model ( C-COM) to improve interoperability – specifically to exchange the interoperability of social determinants of health data and to directly integrate laboratory and instrumentation data with patient EMRs core.

Its bid for C-COM accreditation will also aid in improving governance and workforce capacity, especially with digital tools to support SDOH.

Efforts toward validation for the Continuity of Care Maturity Model will help increase human-assisted health scores. These include providing patients with chronic disease access to digital tools and programs, and using predictive analytics to track population health and SDOH outcomes.

Ultimately, it intends to enhance its predictive analytics capabilities, particularly in generating health outcome analytics to inform personalized care strategies, by working on the Adoption Model for Analytics Maturity recognition.

SMC has passed The Hong Kong Hospital Authority in DHI, also scored remarkably high of 358/400. Earlier last year, another Korean hospital, Korea University’s Anam Hospital, also took the DHI assessment and scored 308/400.

Indonesian Hospital Association or PERSI is looking to partner with a local hospital to be assessed for DHI as part of a three-year partnership with HIMSS, which began last October.

In Australia, the The Queensland Government has tapped HIMSS to assess the progress of the digital health ecosystem of hospitals and health services.

ON PROFILE

“Samsung Medical Center’s highest HIMSS DHI score in the world is the result of the hospital’s efforts to deploy high-tech intelligence globally as part of our digital transformation. . Not stopping at this best result, we will continue to participate in the measurement tools presented by HIMSS, such as Phase 7 Electronic Medical Records Intake Model and Intake Model. digital imaging, to implement digital health and maximize DHI outcomes From the HIMSS DHI assessment, SMC has established a future roadmap for digital health with an objective understanding of our current level of maturity,” commented Professor Wonchul Cha, MD, CMIO and Director of SMC’s Center for Digital Innovation.

“As one of the leading advanced smart hospitals globally, SMC has continuously invested in improving its own digital systems and transforming the worldwide digital health ecosystem. Today, SMC has taken steps to develop a health system optimized for personalized treatment and care, using predictive analytics based on patient-generated data, and empowering patients to autonomy,” said Professor Meong Hi Son, MD, who heads the Advisory Committee at SMC’s Center for Digital Health Transformation.

“By completing the DHI review, SMC has learned that there is still room for improvement in every aspect to deliver a better patient journey at SMC. For example, SMS is committed to improving their interoperability. and ensure a seamless flow of data and services not only for teams of clinicians and healthcare providers, but also for patients and users at large,” said Professor Mira Kang, MD, Associate Director. Director of SMC’s Digital Innovation Center shared.
