Electronics company Samsung has announced it is joining Discord, a community-based social platform, to expand its Web 3.0 and metaverse presence. In doing so, the US branch of the multinational corporation will be able to engage with consumers, nurture virtual communities, and expand its digital marketing efforts.

Samsung US Discord server, required a free invitation joined, reaching over 100,000 members within the first 12 hours of launch. (It goes up to 162,178 at the time of writing). The virtual channel serves as a hub for fans, players and creators to win exclusive digital products, VIP access to events, non-fungible tokens ( NFT), etc. There will also be daily giveaways to reward user participation.
It’s basically a test area for Samsung’s marketing campaigns, including future product launches.
Michelle Crossan-Matos, CMO of Samsung Electronics America, said: “Virtual communication platforms, such as Discord, allow us to build a community where both existing Samsung enthusiasts and brand fans reside. Only then can we unite.” “As these enthusiasts anticipate NFT drops, exclusive product giveaways, or virtual events, we can explore this new frontier with them, allowing us to experiment, learn, and ultimately, shaping our metaverse future – that’s super exciting.”
Samsung’s Discord server isn’t the company’s first foray into Web 3.0 and the metaverse. Just this year, the Korean giant has organized a series of virtual campaigns, including Decentraland Samsung 837X and partner with Nifty Gateway to display NFT on Samsung TV.
In essence, the metaverse is a virtual world. And the idea of a virtual world, where users can communicate, interact, and exchange assets, is an idea Samsung has been pondering for some time. Now, it’s just a matter of how successful the company can be.
