Salman Rushdie’s condition on track after stabbing | US News


Sir Salman Rushdie suffered a “life-changing” injury when he was stabbed, but was “able to say a few words” and retained his “common tempered and defiant sense of humour”, his son said.

The 75-year-old author was taken to the hospital and underwent many hours of surgery attack on stage in Chautauqua, New York state, on Friday.

His son Zafar Rushdie said Sir Salam remained in “critical condition” but was taken off the ventilator on Saturday.

“Despite his severe life-changing trauma, his usual hot-headed and defiant humor has remained intact,” he said in a statement.

Sir Salman was stabbed about 12 times, including in the face and neck, the Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office said.

One of the injuries to the face had punctured Sir Salman’s eye. Another, in the abdomen, punctured the author’s liver.

There were also stab wounds to the abdomen and chest area.

Earlier on Sunday, in an update on his condition, his literary agent, Andrew Wylie, confirmed that Sir Salman had been removed from the ventilator, saying: “The road to recovery has been cleared up. begin.

“It will be a long time; the injury is severe, but his condition is on track.”

On Saturday, the suspect plead not guilty to attempted murder.
