Ruthin Prevails in Limestone Thriller

The lowest possibility is that coach Wesley Ward’s candidate duo won by a tight score in a $200,000 TVG bet April 15. Stonestreet Stables’ Ruthin despite facing 10 months of layoff and applying for only one job at Lawn Park, capitalized on her quick workout series at Stonestreet Training Center in Ocala with her first win.

Ruthin was eliminated 8-1 by bets in the field of eight second-year fillings as the money went to her steady friend, Caravaggio dirty Her world last year’s Tyro Staking winner at Monmouth Park against the males on her only trip to the post. Waterville Lake Stables’ Derrynane won the Tapeta track at Woodbine in the Woodbine Cares Stakes as a juvenile and finished fourth in fourth place in 2021 in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G2T), which also closed as second-choice 5-2.

Guided by John Velazquez, Ruthin shoots out of the starting portal and heads out of Her World for early command. Daughter of Ribchester flies around the oval through an open quarter of: 22.59 before being forced into the loop by Her World. Striking into the lane, Ruthin returned to her steady friend midway through before coming under a fierce attack from Derrynane, who had been clinging to the field for most of the 5 1/2-long journey.

“I didn’t think (Ruthin) would be that fast,” Velazquez said. “She came out quickly – really fast. She jumped so hard that I sat back. I didn’t have a horse to do it from the gate. After that, I just tried to push her. by the wire.”

Ruthin ($18.20) finished a neck in front of Derrynane. Her world is another third of the length back by a third to complete the trilogy. She hit the strings in a time of 1:03.33 on a grass court that is rated as good.
