TV Novosti, the organization that controls RT, is funded by the Kremlin. Under Ofcom’s rules, TV channels can be owned by foreign countries, but they are not controlled by political authorities. This is what did for CGTN, the Chinese network. Ofcom believes that the apparent lack of accuracy and fair play on RT, and its eventual control by a political body, violates our regulatory code.
