4. Research finds (again!) that kids do better with pets
Recent research found that kids who worked with a therapy dog had significantly lower levels of cortisol (the hormone that helps our bodies regulate stress) than kids who engaged in other relaxation methods. Children grow up with pets in the home also reap this benefit and experience a host of other mental health benefits (includes a compelling link between childhood dog exposure and a reduced risk of schizophrenia).
