Rombauer Back in Training With McCarthy
Rombauer , winner of this year’s Preakness Stakes (G1), has returned to trainer Michael McCarthy’s Santa Anita Park barn.
“He is simply jogging proper now,” mentioned McCarthy. “He got here in Oct. 18, and it is excellent to have him again.”
Bred and owned by John and Diane Fradkin, Rombauer has been away from the races since ending third within the June 5 Belmont Stakes offered by NYRA Bets (G1). The three-year-old son of Twirling Candy —Cashmere, by Cowboy Cal, won the May 15 Preakness by 3 1/2 lengths over Midnight Bourbon , with Medina Spirit third. Rombauer also captured this year’s El Camino Real Derby at Golden Gate Fields.
Rombauer will stick with McCarthy’s barn at Santa Anita throughout the upcoming Del Mar meet, and McCarthy mentioned he does not have a particular objective in thoughts at this level for the colt’s return to the races.
“It will be good if we might get to a race just like the Dubai World Cup (G1),” McCarthy mentioned. “It is as much as the horse.”
