For many years now, Rolando Romero has shown extreme hatred for Devin Haney. The two went back and forth on social media but failed in the ring.
Yet despite Romero’s deep disdain for the current WBC lightweight champion, he still pitied him, in fact.
“Devin is the weakest link,” Romero said in an interview with FightHype.com. “I really feel bad for him. He will fall and it will hurt more than anything. It’s not his fault that he was born with f*cked genetics. ”
Romero, 26, is referring to a weakness he believes Haney has displayed throughout his career, which is his inability to execute a long shot. Against Jorge Linares earlier this year, Haney seemed completely in control. However, with the 23-year-old flying with him, Linares rocked him in the tenth round. While Haney will ultimately win in a broad decision, the WBC belt holder looks visibly shaken.
In addition to what Romero believes is a suspicious chin, the former WBA interim player went into detail when he chastised Haney repeatedly over his overall game flaws.
“Lack of strength, thin body, weak legs, he is as ugly as ck. Like I just feel bad for him. He couldn’t do anything to change the cause he was born the way he was.”
Despite Romero’s harsh criticism, Haney continued to flourish. Most recently, the skilful boxer secured a one-way victory over Joseph Diaz in his final ring appearance. Furthermore, Haney didn’t seem to mind Romero’s words.
After the victory over Diaz, Haney was spotted buying some expensive jewelry. But while the young and pompous belt holder has flaunted his wealth, Romero just shrugged as he considered Haney’s spending habits unimportant to his overall fighting ability.
“Just because you say ‘I have more money than you’, it doesn’t change. He’s as weak as an f*ck with no strength. ”
