We are big fans of both Rivian R1T and R1S. They’re just incredibly good vehicles that run on electricity and are also ridiculously fast. You will even soon be able to charge them at Tesla’s Supercharger. Unfortunately, with a base price starting at $70,000, they’re quite expensive. That’s where R2 is coming soon appear. It was supposed to be a smaller, cheaper vehicle that more people could afford. And if the allegedly leaked specs are accurate, it looks like Rivian has hit the nail on the head.
Twitter user Chris Hilbert said he found details about the upcoming R2 on Rivian’s website using a web checker tool. After posting what he found, Rivian reportedly updated the website to remove what he found, so we can’t verify his findings ourselves. Additionally, when asked, Rivian declined to comment. However, with the launch of the R2 SUV on March 7, we won’t have to wait long to find out whether this information is accurate or not.
So what are the specifications? Supposedly, the R2 SUV will start at $47,500, although it could be even $47,000. Apparently, the site is not consistent with the starting prices it uses. It will also offer a range of up to 330 miles and hit 60 mph in just 3.0 seconds. We’re guessing the base R2 will be slower and offer less range than that maximum, but we wouldn’t exactly complain if you can get a car that fast for under $50,000.
In terms of size, it is said to seat five and have an overall size of 185.6 inches with a wheelbase of 115.6 inches. That would make it a little more than 15 inches shorter than the R1S and 5.5 inches shorter from wheel to wheel. That would essentially make it the same size as the Tesla Model Y. However, it would also offer 9.8 inches of ground clearance, giving it a 25-degree approach angle and a 27-degree departure angle.
Considering this information supposedly comes from Rivian’s official website, as well as Rivian’s silence on the leak, we’d guess it’s accurate. Either way, though, we’ll know for sure on Thursday.
