Rivian opens ‘exclusive’ EV charging network to outside brands



Rivian Company CEO RJ Scaringe said it will open its charging network to the public as it continues to make slow and steady progress towards mainstream electric vehicles. Open it charger for non-Rivian vehicles would allow it to take advantage of the federal EV popular offers extended by Inflation Reduction Act, reducing the burden of infrastructure development costs. Based on auto news (sub. required), the network could open to outsiders as soon as next year.

While moving mimic by Tesla announced that it will open its Supercharger network to external brands, Infrastructure of Rivian less powerful and more decentralized, in no small part due to the intention to increase the opportunity to charge for those who plan to take their adventures on the sidewalk. The so-called “Rivian Adventure Network“includes dozens of existing sites, many of which are already equipped with high-powered DC fast chargers, but that’s just the surface,” Rivian said.

Ultimately, Rivian plans to offer more than 3,500 fast charging stations spread across about 600 locations. While Rivian still advertisement it is proprietary, unlike Tesla, the company uses industry standard charging plugs which will make it easier to accept external brands.
