Rishi Sunak claims to enjoy McDonald’s breakfast pack – but it’s no longer on the menu | Political news

Rishi Sunak has revealed his favorites to order for breakfast at McDonald’s – but one that no longer exists.

Speaking on ITV’s This Morning program, Former Prime Minister was asked about a photo posted on Instagram of him paying at a McDonald’s self-service machine while campaigning for the Conservative Party leader.

When asked what he ordered, he said: “I got a bacon roll with ketchup and pancakes.

“But if I go with my daughters we get the wrapper. If I go with her (my eldest daughter) we get the hash brown wrapper.”

Mr. Sunak’s order raised eyebrows after it was pointed out that the breakfast package was actually taken off the menu in March 2020, at the start of the COVID pandemic.

In a statement in January this year, the fast-food chain confirmed that breakfast items, along with bagels, would not be returning to the menu.

A source with the Sunak campaign said: “Rishi has barely seen his children in the two-and-a-half years since becoming prime minister so there’s hardly been a chance to share a McDonald’s with them.

“He hopes they can consider putting the breakfast item back on the menu.”

Mr. Sunak also discussed his two daughters in the interview: “They mean a lot to me. They’re nine and 11 years old, I barely see them at the moment.”

It comes later an exclusive poll for Sky News claims that Liz Truss will win the Tory leadership contest by a decision margin next month.

The poll puts the foreign minister 32 points ahead of Sunak.

YouGov survey shows that 66% of members are voting for Ms Truss and 34% are supporting Mr. Sunak, once those who do not know or will not vote are excluded.

The race has tightened a bit since a YouGov poll of members just over two weeks ago, when Ms. Truss led by 38 percentage points.

The poll also shows that Boris Johnson’s legacy and character is likely to greatly influence the next prime minister as members of Tory deeply regret the decision to remove him in July.

YouGov interviewed 1,089 Tory members from August 12 to 17 for Sky News.
