In the all-London cruiser derby, Richard Riakporhe knocked out Deion Jumah to maintain his undefeated record.
Riakporhe, 32, has now beaten England’s best run in four years with wins over Sam Hyde, Chris Billam-Smith, Jack Massey as well as Tommy McCarthy of Northern Ireland.
Tonight’s main event pitted the two against each other after their original rivals Fabio Turchi and Mikael Lawal withdrew due to injury. The stage was then set for a domestic cruiser clash that many expected.
The first half was a forgettable three minutes. Lots of poses, moving around with barely throwing anything.
The second part shows part of Jumah’s tactical plan that he believes will bring him success. Join, throw what you can and escape the majestic Riakporhe. Jumah swung her right hand behind the guard’s back as Riakporhe tried to return a battle-changing punch.
Jumah continued to target the body in the third round and in the fourth round, confidence increased as Riakporhe did not let his opponent worry.
The round saw Jumah double tap with a jab and dash left past the guard, but Riakporhe’s instinctive reaction was deadly. A hook on the right flipped over and dropped Jumah. It’s proof of the power that can really change a fight and the 32-year-old growled as he watched his derby opponent fall to the floor. Jumah recovered to make it to round 5.
Despite the 10-8 card, Jumah regained his composure and got back to business. Riakporhe extended his right hand again but was unable to do anything as Jumah chased after his head and torso. It’s neither spectacular nor an awe-inspiring sight, but this fight is slowly building its own drama.
After a sixth inning like the first, Jumah approached to shove Riakporhe on the inside, who wasn’t strong enough to win these innings.
Seventh place went to Jumah, who must have thought he was leading. Jumah went ahead early in the eighth, but Riakporhe chose to waste little time. He clearly had enough Jumah and 23 seconds in a straight right into the body folding the smaller cruiser, who could do little about the hit and even less about getting up to fight. .
