It’s a fight that fans have been clamoring to watch for nearly a decade now.
Both Amir Khan and Kell Brook, while nasty opponents, have a lot in common. Of course, both are from England, are both around the same age of 35, and each held world titles at one point in their respective careers. Most importantly, both guys have passed their primes.
After years of incessant trash talk and acceptance that they will never sing tango in the ring, the pair are finally taking place at Manchester Arena in the UK later tonight.
Like most of us, bettors are having a hard time seeing how this match plays out. Neither man will be fighting for a world title anytime soon, and both have spent most of their recent time on the sidelines.
In Khan’s case, he suffered a one-on-one knockout at the hands of Terence Crawford, now his biggest supporter, in April 2019. The Olympic silver medalist raised the bar on his own. his victory, brushing himself and finding an easier way than many opponents, ultimately choosing former featherweight super contender, Billy Dib. Khan will go on to easily stop his man in the fourth round of their confrontation in July 2019.
As for Brook, his most recent form is also unimpressive. With his body still made of granite, his chin has become a bit more delicate today. During his most recent appearance on the ring, Brook was, ironically, also stopped by Crawford. The two squared off in November 2020, with Brook faltering midway through the fourth round.
Overall, Khan has had a better career. He dominated during his time as an amateur, ending his time in the unpaid ranks with a 101-9 record, an Olympic silver medal, and a 140-pound unification championship. . However, despite what he has achieved, Khan’s past achievements are seen as a thing of the past. Most odds providers have rated him as a slightly underdog at +135 with Brook testing at -165.
In our view, the betting market has gone wrong. Both Khan and Brook’s punch resistance has had better days. But unlike Brook, Khan still has the overall speed and skill advantage for him in this matchup. If this contest were to take place while they were in their prime, we’d be on Brook’s side, but with both men left with nothing left, their confrontation should be viewed as an option. .
Overall, Khan has only a little bit more in the tank and can pull back to victory. We’ll deal with Khan quickly when frustrated about a contest that’s past its expiration date.
