Renault Trafic E-Tech Electric revealed with a range of 240km

Renault perfected its European electric truck range with the reveal of Traffic E-Tech Electric this week.

Trafic E-Tech Electric sits among smaller companies Kangoo E-Tech (now its second generation EV) and larger Master E-Techoffers the French company a full range of plug-in trucks.

The new mid-size EV truck will be Renault’s main attraction at this week’s Hanover IAA Transportation show.

The Trafic E-Tech Electric will pack the same 52kWh battery as the Master which provides a claimed WLTP driving range of 240km – more than enough for urban couriers and so-called ‘last mile’ logistics.

The battery will power the 90kW electric drive motor. Torque figures are yet to be released, although Renault says towing capacity will be limited to 750kg.

Two Trafic E-Tech Electric body styles will be offered in lengths of 5.08m and 5.48m, with compartment volumes ranging from 5.8 cubic meters to 8.9 cubic meters depending on the roof.

Maximum load is 1.1 tons.

Renault has not discussed charging times at this stage, but it will support 7kW and 22kW AC charging and 50kW DC charging.

The company has yet to reveal the launch date of Trafic E-Tech.

Australia

Local Renault distributors are all on board the EV train, with Kangoo E-Tech is about to launch in 2023 and Master E-Tech is on track to launch in 2024. It’s coming too Megane E-Tech . crossover next year.

Commenting on the Trafic E-Tech, all Renault Australia will say at the early stages in relation to the local launch is: “We are very excited about our new range of electric vans. For Australia, this starts with the brand new Kangoo electronic technology which will launch in early 2023”.

The Traffic diesel is updated a lot the range just went on sale here, with our review here. The Trafic has long been Renault’s best-selling truck, so the EV looks like a sure thing for this market at some point when supply allows.

While there aren’t many EV trucks out there right now – the outgoing Kangoo ZE has long been the only option – there is certainly demand for the fleet and a range of options coming soon.

Earlier this week, we received details about Mercedes-Benz eVito. Ford is carrying e-Transit (2023) and less e-Transit Custom (2024) to Australia, while Peugeot says it sees a market for the electric vans it supplies locally in Europe.

Volkswagen also has plans for ID. Buzz Cargo in Australia, but again as early as 2024. We also expect China’s LDV is about to announce a digital version of Deliver 9 for this market.
