Toprak Razgatlıoğlu switched from his Yamaha R1 to the YZR-M1, riding 40 laps of Aragon in sweltering conditions yesterday.
The 15- to 16-mile run, coupled with a combination of fast turns and slower turns around the 5,078-kilometer MotorLand Aragón circuit, allowed Razgatlıoğlu to experience all aspects of the Yamaha YZR’s performance- M1.
The 25-year-old started his day with 12 laps to build under pointsassembles the vehicle and Michelin tires, completing shorter laps afterwards, as Yamaha’s MotoGP Test Team makes setup adjustments to the bike based on Razgatlıoğlu’s feedback and data analysis.
On hand to help Razgatlıoğlu gain confidence and speed on the Yamaha YZR-M1 was the Yamaha MotoGP Test Rider Cal Crutchlow, whose lap count the 2021 WorldSBK champion used as a benchmark during testing.

“This is my first day on a Yamaha M1 MotoGP and it feels completely different from my R1. More horsepower, different electronics, seamless transmission, it’s all completely new to me. With each lap, I learned more and more, because after the world superbike, adapting to the MotoGP machine wasn’t so easy. Luckily, I had Cal Crutchlow around to give me advice and he was able to help me a lot. The bike feels good, especially on a straight line, where the speeds are fast and it’s fun to experience the carbon brakes. It’s really hot today, so we try to do five or six laps after just the initial 12 laps to get a first taste of the bike. When I watched the MotoGP bikes on TV at Aragon, you could see it was a little bumpy, and I can feel it here today. It’s not too bad, you have to keep the throttle open to get through the bumps, because if you close the door it becomes unstable. Overall a very good test, even if it rained this afternoon which means I didn’t get as many laps as I would have liked. I really enjoy riding MotoGP bikes, many thanks to Yamaha for giving me this opportunity. ”
Unfortunately, the test was cut short due to heavy rain before late afternoon practice, which did not allow Razgatlıoğlu a chance to further improve on his promising initial speed.
