Raw dog food Lot may be contaminated with Listeria
Primal Pet Foods sells a wide variety of raw dog food formulas, including frozen, freeze-dried and food containers. They always test products for bacteria before sending them to stores, but one batch of dog food tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes after undergoing safety tests at the facility. .
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration found the presence of Listeria bacteria during routine sampling, even though the agency had previously given negative results. As a result, Primal Pet Foods voluntarily withdrew that shipment from stores as a precautionary measure.
What products are being recalled?
The company has recalled a batch of Fresh Whole Frozen Beef Bread for its beef recipe. The bags weigh 6 pounds, have a batch number of #W10068709 and have a best price as of 5/22/23. No other products or batch codes are affected.

What is Listeria?
Fortunately, the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes rarely causes serious reactions in dogs. Dogs often experience mild symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea. Even if they don’t show symptoms, they can still carry the bacteria and pass it on to people. Dogs that have consumed the recalled product are encouraged to visit the veterinarian.
Symptoms in humans include fever, headache, muscle aches, nausea, abdominal pain, stiff neck, diarrhea, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions. Young children, pregnant women and the elderly are most at risk.
People can become infected with Listeria by touching contaminated product or surfaces that have been in contact with it. Interacting with a dog carrying the bacteria is also risky. If you’re experiencing any of the symptoms above, you may want to see your healthcare provider just to be on the safe side.
What should you do with the affected products?
Any pet parents whose food is recalled should stop feeding their dogs and dispose of them. Wipe down any surfaces that food touches and wash your hands thoroughly afterwards. Those cleaning tips are always a good idea when dealing with pet raw food.
