Ranji Trophy Quarterfinals, Day 1 LIVE Score Updates: 150 up for Bengal, Gharami scores maiden First Class fifty

Welcome to Sportstar‘s LIVE coverage of Day 1 of the Ranji Trophy quarterfinals in Bengaluru.

RANJI TROPHY LIVE SCORE UPDATES

Karnataka v Uttar Pradesh | Here’s Ashwin Achal with the latest from Alur: “Arre yaar cmon!”, screams Saurabh Kumar as Ankit Rajpoot drops an easy catch at mid on. Could be costly. Batting mainstay and skipper Manish Pandey was on zero.

Scores at tea

1. At Bengaluru: Bengal 196 for 1 (Gharami 56 batting, Anustup Majumdar 29 batting)

Bengal v Jharkhand | It’s tea, at Just Cricket Academy, Bengaluru. Here’s Dhruva Prasad: Bengal 196 for 1 in 59 overs at tea. Gharami and Majumdar have deftly negotiated the spin duo of Nadeem and Roy with their skilful footwork. Thirty overs in the session, significant improvement from the 29 in the first.

Mumbai v Uttarakhand | Half-century! Amol: “Arman Jaffer lofts leggie Dikshanshu Negi over long-on to raise his bat for a fifty. In the next over, Suved Parkar dances down the wicket and hits left-arm spinner Mayank Mishra into the sight screen. Mumbai 157/2.”

Bengal v Jharkhand | Dhruva texts: Maiden fifty for Gharami in first-class cricket. He stepped out and smashed Nadeem for a six over long-off to move to 48 before reaching 50 off 88 balls with a couple behind the ‘keeper. Bengal 184/1 in 54 overs.

Punjab v MP | Lalith: Punjab in a spot of bother now. Mandeep nicks a fuller ball to the keeper as Anubhav Agarwal strikes. MP seamers have cranked it up early in the second session. Four slips in place for the new batter.

Punjab v MP | A wicket has fallen at Alur-III. Here’s our correspondent Lalith Kalidas: Anmolpreet holes out to mid-off on 47. A loose chip off the bowling of Datey who picks his third wicket for Madhya Pradesh. Punjab 105/3 in 28 overs.

Mumbai v Uttarakhand | And the partnership was nearly broken! Here’s Amol: Did i jinx it? Well, almost. Suved Parkar attempts an ambitious drive off Swapnil Singh’s left-arm spin but the bowler is unable to pouch a return chance. That’s the second dropped catch of the game. 127/2.

Mumbai v Uttarakhand | Here’s Amol: The partnership between Arman and Suved is now 58, with Mumbai sitting pretty at 123/2 at the drinks break.

Punjab v MP | Here’s our correspondent Lalith Kalidas with the latest from Alur-III: Datey produces the breakthrough. Sets up Abhishek beautifully with a string of short-pitched deliveries and sends in the fuller ball. Abhishek has a hard push at it and the ball flies straight to the slip-cordon. The skipper falls three short of a half-century. Punjab 97/2 in 24 overs.

Bengal v Jharkhand | Anustup Majumdar clips one to the leg side off Anukul Roy to bring up the 150 for Bengal.

Bengal v Jharkhand | Here’s our correspondent Dhruva, with the latest from Just Cricket Academy, Bengaluru: Bengal 143/1 in 43 overs at Drinks. Anukul Roy has asked questions since the moment he was brought into the attack. Anustup Majumdar, Bengal’s highest run-scorer this season, joins Gharami in the middle.

Mumbai v Uttarakhand | Here’s Amol: Arman Jaffer whips Agrim Tiwari from outside off through midwicket for a four that had his chachu‘s stamp all over.

Mumbai v Uttarakhand | 100 up for Mumbai. The partnership between Armaan Jaffer and Suved Parkar is nearly 50 runs now.

Bengal v Jharkhand | Bolt from the blue! Abhimanyu Easwaran is out leg-before-wicket for 65. Bengal loses its first wicket. Here’s our correspondent Dhruva: Jharkhand draws first blood as Sushant Mishra gets Abhimanyu Easwaran for 65. The Bengal skipper shouldered arms to a ball just outside off, which came in with the angle. Bengal 132/1 in 39.5 overs.

Mumbai v Uttarakhand | It’s time for spin. Here’s our correspondent Amol: Spin is introduced in the 25th over. And Arman Jaffer welcomes Swapnil Singh’s left-arm spin by tonking him over long-on off his first ball.

Bengal v Jharkhand | Here’s the latest from Dhruva: 122/0 in 36 overs – Bengal. Easwaran and Gharami have looked solid. While Nadeem has put the squeeze on the runs from one end, the pacers have eased the pressure by allowing the occasional boundary.

Mumbai v Uttarakhand | Here’s our correspondent Amol Karhadkar, reporting from Alur Grounds, Bengaluru: After a largely quiet half hour at the start of the session, Arman Jaffer hooks a short ball by Akash Madhwal for a one-bounced four. Jaffer and Parkar are looking solid now. 85/2 in 23 overs.

Bengal v Jharkhand | Here’s our correspondent Dhruva Prasad, reporting from Bengaluru: Easwaran receives a warning from the umpire for running onto the pitch. He has been straying out of the crease all day to negate the movement. Saurabh Tiwary brings the keeper Kushagra up to the stumps to keep Easwaran inside the crease in Ashish Kumar’s over.

Bengal v Jharkhand | Play has resumed at Just Cricket Academy, Bengaluru. The first run of the session is via a leg-bye. Gharami tries to flick one off his thighs and it’s a leg-bye instead. The first over of the session produces just a single.

Lalith from PUN vs MP: Punjab 50/1 in 13 overs – DRINKS. Fifty up for Punjab after a series of close shaves off Gaurav Yadav’s bowling. Gaurav found the outside-edge off Abhishek on 19, but a regulation catch went down at first-slip. Anmolpreet then found the boundary with a streaky drive past gully.

Ashwin from KAR vs UP: Samarth and Mayank play out the shortened first session safely. Samarth has looked for runs from ball one, while Mayank has been circumspect. The delay in start means that 78 overs will be bowled today.

Amol from MUM vs UTT: Uttarakhand is the happier bunch at Lunch, having seen the back of both the Mumbai openers. At 65/2, Arman Jaffer and Suved Parkar will hope to hang around during the extended 150-minute second session.

Dhruva from BEN vs JHA: Easwaran gets to his fifty with a flick to the mid-wicket boundary and takes Bengal to 101/0 at Lunch on Day 1. Slow IPL over-rates seem to be rubbing off on domestic cricket too. Just 29 overs bowled in a two-and-half-hour first session.

Amol from MUM vs UTT: Yashasvi makes the same mistake for the second time and pays for it. An attempted cut off swinger Dhapola is caught by Swapnil Singh at second slip. Suved Parkar walks out on debut with a little over 5 mins for Lunch.

Ashwin from KAR vs UP: Mayank Agarwal in a lot of pain. Takes a Mavi ball on the ribs. Mayank had gotten hit in similar fashion by Umran Malik during the IPL. The physios work their magic, and Mayank will continue batting. Karnataka will be relieved.

Lalith from PUN vs MP: The surface seems to be a bit two-paced, suggests MP seamer Anubhav Agarwal from long-off. However, both Anubhav and Puneet have tried to hit the deck hard and keep the batters tied down. Punjab 21/1 in 6 overs.

Dhruva from BEN vs JHA: Abhishek Raman has retired hurt for 41 after pulling a back muscle while taking a run. In comes Gharami.

Lalith from PUN vs MP: Shubman Gill departs early. Puneet Datey forces him to play down the wrong line and knocks off the bails. Punjab 17/1 in 4.1 overs.

Amol from MUM vs UTT: Had Kunal Chandela not dropped Yashasvi Jaiswal in the cordon off Akash Madhwal, Uttarakhand would have surely had its nose ahead. And Jaiswal recovers with a superb cover drive in the next over.

Lalith from PUN vs MP: Shubman is tested with a cracking delivery from Anubhav Agarwal outside the off-stump, off the third ball. He responds with a crunching on-drive and beats mid-on to find his first boundary. Punjab 8/0 in 2 overs.

Dhruva from BEN vs JHA: Perfect exhibition of patience by Easwaran and Raman. Played out a probing spell by Shukla and Ashish in the morning. They are reaping the benefits of some wayward bowling by Jharkhand’s pace trio, who have bowled too short.

KAR vs UP: About 40 minutes remaining before the players leave for Lunch. Yash Dayal, opening the bowling, will look to get at least two wickets before that. Mayank Agarwal and Ravikumar Samarth are Karnataka’s openers.

Ashwin from KAR vs UP: Umpires make their way to the middle. Play set to start.

Lalith from PUN vs MP: Punjab wins toss, to bat.

Ashwin from KAR vs UP: Devdutt Padikkal not in the playing eleven for Karnataka. Samarth, Manish Pandey, Karun Nair, Mayank, Shreyas Gopal and KV Siddharth make up the batting order.

Ashwin from KAR vs UP: UP won the toss and elected to bowl. Devdutt Padikkal not in Karnataka playing eleven.

Lalith from PUN vs MP: Toss scheduled for 11.15am.

MUM vs UTT: Deepak Dhapola bowls the first over. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Prithvi Shaw open for Mumbai.

Ashwin from KAR vs UP: Good news. Toss at 11.05am. Players are warming up. Play likely to start at 11.20am.

Dhruva from BEN vs JHA: Bengal 53/0 in 15 overs at Drinks. After a probing start, the pacers have looked off colour. Sushant Mishra – the first change in bowling – has extracted good bounce with his height but has lacked accuracy.

Amol from MUM vs UTT: Mumbai to bat. Suved Parkar to debut.

Ashwin from KAR vs UP: The sun is out, the ground looks green and inviting. But only when you enter the field will you realise that the outfield is wet. So the wait continues…

Lalith from PUN vs MP: No DRS available for any of the matches. Third umpire available only for Karnataka vs UP.

Dhruva from BEN vs JHA: Three consecutive lbw shouts off Ashish Kumar and Easwaran survives on each occasion. He angles it into him and the swing takes it further in, but the extra bounce is what saves the batter.

Amol from MUM vs UTT: Toss at 10.15, start at 10.45.

Lalith from PUN vs MP: Soppers have moved out. Few Punjab and MP players have stepped out for practice

Dhruva from BEN vs JHA: There is swing on offer on this wicket but the Jharkhand bowlers haven’t made the Bengal batters play enough. Some close calls already with Ashish Kumar troubling Easwaran, who is coming down the track to negate the movement. Bengal 12/0 in 4 overs.

PUN vs MP: Next inspection at 10:15am.

Amol from MUM vs UTT: Umpires Nandan and Navdeep Singh are inspecting the soggy patches in the outfield along with match referee P Ranganathan. Next inspection at 10am.

BEN vs JHA: Rahul Shukla gets things rolling for Jharkhand. Abhishek Kumar Raman and Abhimanyu Easwaran are Bengal’s designated openers.

KAR vs UP: Next inspection at 10am.

MUM vs UTT: Next inspection at 9:30am.

BEN vs JHA: Jharkhand elects to field.

BENGALURU WEATHER UPDATES

– Lalith from PUN vs MP: A KSCA official informs there was heavy downpour in Alur last night. The weather is pretty cool this morning with a lot of sunshine.

Update from KAR vs UP: Toss may be a bit delayed due to wet patches around the pitch. Groundsmen working on it. The outfield, though, seems to be pretty dry despite the heavy downpour last night.

Ashwin says, “Toss delayed. Expecting an inspection at 10 am. Weather is sunny and pleasant. Good chance that the match starts before Lunch.”

Amol from MUM vs UTT: Bright and sunny right now following a heavy downpour last night.

– Dhruva from BEN vs JHA: The Bengaluru rains have relented. Cool, overcast morning at the Just Cricket Academy. The covers have come off the outfield but are kept ready beyond the boundaries. The surface should be a little damp. Good day to bowl first.
