Nintendo has been doing things behind our backs again. Well, not really – companies tweak character models in video games quite often, usually between generations of consoles or as graphics engines improve. But people can get pretty good protection for specific character models. Some people like Sonic’s sprite in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles because it’s a bit more pointed and has smaller eyes, and Pikachu started losing weight between Pokémon Red & Blue and Pokémon Gold & Silver.
So with this in mind, we have a question for Nintendo – why do you keep making Pauline shorter?
Various Super Mario Bloggers @MarioBrothBlog known for uncovering the weird and wonderful from the Mushroom Kingdom. And one day he shared some of Pauline’s character archetypes since her comeback in 2017. Super Mario Odyssey. And there is a suspicious trend between them – each is smaller than the last!
Okay, we think we can understand why Pauline is so tall in the Odyssey. She lives in New Donk City with other life-sized humans. Of course, it’s not like we think Mario isn’t human, but everybody higher than Mario there. It makes sense, in a strange way. She’s almost twice the height of an Italian plumber
So when Pauline came back Visiting Mario Kart, it makes sense to reduce her height a bit. Shorter head and shoulders are pretty much though, don’t you think so? There’s probably not a single car that’s big enough, and it might be a bit unfair for Pauline to have a Jeep while everyone else has small karts. She also appeared in Mario Tennis Aces around this time, and although we don’t have footage of her next to Mario (we love this Mario scale, to be honest – how tall are you Mario sounds better than feet, inches, centimeters). , etc.), which we can see in this Tumblr blog post from nintendos pauline that she is at least taller than Princess Peach and Daisy.

However, that is not total case. Pauline debut waaaaaaay back in 1981 the classic Donkey Kong video game, and she’s actually been in a number of Mario games since then – most notably, Mario vs. Donkey Kong series. She made her debut in Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis, and her appearances in these games seem to suggest she’s about the same height as Peach – and her height in the most recent Mario Golf game. So Nintendo doesn’t actually shrink Pauline, but just reverts her back to her original height, perhaps? Pauline’s tall figure in Odyssey stands out because of her Mario cartoon design, but she’s as tall as everyone else in New Donk City. This is also her first appearance in the main Super Mario game. And don’t forget the fever of 2021 is over Resident Evil Villagebreakout star, Lady Dimitrescu. We’re pretty sure Mayor Pauline doesn’t nearly 3 meters highbut this seems to be a trend!
Pauline will probably stay close to her Mario Golf height in the future, but hey, we can at least look back fondly at the time we found out Mario was a hell of a lot smaller. compared to humans. The new Donk City is amazing, isn’t it?
