Rams offers deals to Brian Burns, Christian McCaffrey

Rarely in recent years, Los Angeles Rams was defeated on the trading deadline.

Rams gave two first-round draft picks and second-round picks for Panthers for the outstanding passer Brian Burnsonly for Carolina to turn down the offer, sources told ESPN.

The Rams also offer second, third and fifth round picks along with the run back Cam Akers come to Carolina Christian McCaffreyaccording to sources, but instead, the Panthers traded the star running again San Francisco 49ers.

Now the Rams will have to make do with what they have and hopefully Akers will be able to help them. Akers will be active on Sunday against Tampa Bay Buccaneersaccording to one source, but how much he plays will be decided by the flow of the game.

Akers and Rams head coach Sean McVay had a meeting last week that was said to be, according to a source from the federation, “a good atmosphere.” McVay said on Wednesday that he was “highly encouraged with the dialogue” he had with Akers.

“They were able to see why each side was upset at the table and from there moved on,” the source told ESPN.

Akers hadn’t played in the Rams’ previous two games as they explored trading options for their second 2020 pick. McVay declined to disclose details of why Akers was absent, but the return to running was listed on the injury report for personal reasons.

The Rams have made many near-term deals in recent seasons, including acquisitions Jalen Ramsey in 2019 and Von Miller last year. But Los Angeles discovered that for the first time in recent memory, other teams did not appreciate their draft picks this year as they did in the past.
