Ramirez KO’s Nova on Thursday
By: Sean Crose
Featherweight Abraham Nova appearing on the Beterbiev-Smith card on Saturday has been defeated at the Theater in Madison Square Garden. The New Yorker 21-0 (by Puerto Rico) faces Robeisy Ramirez 9-1 in a scheduled 10th round match. The first round saw Ramirez prove to be the sharper puncher. Nova tries to maintain range for a second, refusing to engage her aggressive opponent. The third round was close and exciting, with both fighters regularly hitting the center of the ring.
Nova successfully jabbed Ramirez in the face in the fourth round, sometimes following it with an overhand punch. However, fireworks exploded in the final 30 seconds of the round. Noca continued to thrash in the fifth while Ramirez moved forward with a guard that could be called the lowest. Sometimes he almost let go of his hand at his side. As the round continued, however, Ramirez sent his men onto the field with a howitzer on the left, ending the match instantly.
