The overall design, in addition to having different proportions, has other characteristics that separate it from the internal combustion truck. The nose is wider and has a flatter roof, a stark contrast to the pickup truck-like shape of Ram trucks a few decades ago. The fenders have sharp creases that accentuate the wheel arches. Those wheel arches can accommodate tires up to 35 inches in diameter. On this concept, it has road-focused tires on 24-inch wheels. There is also an impressive swooping line that separates the cab and the bed. Besides the lower hood and significantly more rugged windshield, other aerodynamic-inspired elements include flush-mounted door handles, swivel tow hooks, side view cameras instead of mirrors, and a flat plate. with diffuser.
The bed also has some unique features. Although the exterior gives the impression of a separate bed, it is actually connected to the cabin. This allows for a GM-style center gate (which is electrically operated on this concept), although the sliding second row allows you to keep it in place when the center gate is folded. And not only does the rear of the cab open up, but there’s also a passage all the way into the bottom for particularly long and narrow objects. The electric tailgate is divided into barn doors, which can be opened by gates and floors to expand the trunk beyond the tail.
This brings us to the interior of the Ram Revolution. The panel design repeats the lighting signature of the front panel, and it includes its own ambient lighting. The entire interior is very minimalistic and the only real control centers visible are the steering wheel and center display. Yes, the central infotainment system uses two 14.2-inch screens, with the lower screen being expandable for more display area or can even be removed. The windshield can also display information thanks to the augmented reality display on the windshield. The center panel has similar tricks, which can open up a workspace or be removed entirely. One of the biggest surprises is what Ram has done with space. While the larger cab certainly offers more space for occupants in both rows, the Ram has gone a step further – and added a third row of seats. There’s a set of jumpers behind the rear seats attached to the mid-port that can be deployed in short situations when you have more than five people to carry.
There are many other interesting features inside. The leather is made from an apple by-product (the fruit) and the floor is made from recycled rubber and cork. There’s a biometric camera that recognizes who’s driving and can set things up the way that person wants. The storage app lets you know if you can stuff a product into your truck, either by scanning a barcode or by using a 3D scanning camera. The roof is electrochromic and can be frosted. There’s an AI assistant for vehicles that can respond to voice commands, and with the truck’s Dark Mode it can follow you as you head out of the truck at slow speeds for short maneuvers . There is even an external projector that can provide information or show movies. And in the garage you can have a Ram Charger The robot locates itself underneath the car to enable wireless inductive charging.
While things like actual power, range, and more have yet to be revealed, Ram has provided some details on the Revolution’s mechanical components. In addition to the dual engine and body-on-frame construction, the truck is available with a self-levelling and multi-height air suspension system. Four-wheel steering would be another option. The battery system is an 800-volt type, capable of reaching a maximum charge rate of 350 kW. Ram says it will be able to add 100 miles of range in 10 minutes. Ram specifically mentioned that the engine bays are designed to accommodate even larger versions of the more capable Ram variants.
And while Ram doesn’t share more specifics about the Revolution, we can make some guesses based on his claims of being a class president in many areas. As for range, the Ram revolution would need to peak 400 miles to beat the Silverado EV and Sierra Electric Scooterbased on estimated range of those trucks. GM is also claiming there will be a Silverado EV version with up to 20,000 pounds of towing capacity, so that’s another mark Ram will have to hit to claim the top of the class title. For payload, Ram will have to beat Lightning F-150£2,000 rating. In terms of charging capacity, there will likely be a gap between Ram and GM trucks, as both support 350 kW chargers, while Lightning has a maximum charging speed of 150 kW. Of course, with multiple versions sure to launch for Ram, as well as the competition, each of the top specs could span different models.
The production version of the Ram 1500 Revolution concept goes on sale in 2024, possibly a 2025 model. But we should see that truck sometime this year.
