Queen Camilla wears a Dior bag named after Princess Diana

Queen Camilla can’t resist a beautiful accessory, even if it’s closely related to King Charles’ ex-wife, Princess Diana.

Camilla attended Day 10 of the Wimbledon Tennis Championships on July 10, and was spotted arriving at the event in a cream-colored shirt dress that was perfect for summer. The Queen added gold drop earrings, a puppy brooch, and debuted her first Lady Dior handbag in a tan color, the latter of which was a chic—but controversial—accent to the outfit. Camilla also wore the bag to royal engagements the following day in Wales.

The Lady Dior handbag was originally called the “Chouchou” and was given to Princess Diana by former French First Lady Bernadette Chirac. Diana fell in love with the bag, and it “immediately became her favorite, so much so that she wore it day and night, and bought several Diors at Harrods when she returned to London,” Tatler explain.

Diana started carrying the bag around 1995, and after being seen carrying it in public so much, the bag was renamed the “Lady” in her honor in 1996, a nod to when she was known as Lady Diana Spencer before marrying into the royal family. Diana even wore the bag to the 1996 Met Gala in a navy shade that perfectly matched her dress.

Of course, the presence of Camilla’s Lady Dior bag did not go unnoticed by royal observers. While Diana was still alive, then-Prince Charles had an affair with Camilla throughout the 1990s while he was still married to Princess Diana. Charles and Diana eventually divorced in August 1996, while Camilla and Andrew Parker Bowles divorced the year before in 1995. Charles and Camilla married in 2005.
