Q&A with Saul Fraiman, Master Jewelry Designer for Grandview Klein Diamond Group

We sat down with Saul Fraiman, the master jewelry designer for Grandview Klein Diamond Group to discuss all things diamond and industry trends.

Fraiman’s career in the industry began 50 years ago as an apprentice to a jewelry maker, followed by Saul’s introduction to the diamond industry, where he supplied small stones. “Fancy shapes” for jewelry makers and designers. Then Saul opened “Rolling Stone Diamond Co.” became “Fraiman Associates” specializing in unique and unusual side stones as well as fancy colored diamonds. It wasn’t long before he joined the Grandview Klein Diamond Group and the rest is history.

  • When did you first start designing jewelry? Or, have you always been on that side of the business?

    • I started designing about 35 years ago after spending many years supplying diamonds to high end diamond jewelry designers and manufacturers.

  • What was it like working and designing for one of the most famous diamond manufacturers?

    • Working at Grandview Klein has been a wonderful experience. Gain access to rich diamond inventory just like a kid in a candy store. I got to play with the rarest and most expensive diamonds in the world. Also, it’s amazing to have the ability to work with both clients and world-renowned designers and see how a piece of jewelry put together from start to finish can become a heirloom. For generations to come, that feeling is indescribable.

  • JCK Vegas is coming soon. What do you think will stand out at this year’s show?

    • Since COVID, people feel the new importance of family and spending time together. Now that they’ve taken off their sweatpants and slippers, people are starting to dress up again, and we’re seeing them go back to basics with their Riviera necklaces, line bracelets and especially the Diamond studs have made a strong comeback. To be more specific about the design, the ovals, rectangular emeralds, and radiant cuts are things you just can’t keep in stock. Another strong fashion that is rapidly gaining popularity is yellow diamonds, yellow necklaces, yellow rings, yellow eternal bands, etc. Everything yellow is fast becoming the next big trend. follow. Aside from the design aspect of working with yellow diamond jewelry, I truly believe that yellow jewelry has great value, which has been stagnant for a while and is just starting to make a comeback. Consumers who are alert to upcoming trends are taking advantage and taking advantage of the low prices of yellow jewelry today. Another comeback we’re seeing on social media with celebrities, influencers and the younger generation in general is “Toi et Moi” jewelry, meaning “you and me”, which is a One of the most historic rings symbolizes stories of love and partnership. It’s fun to fold, worn as a cocktail ring and women can buy these rings themselves because they like the style and it’s a fun way to show off their own unique style.

  • Is there anything you would like to add?

    • Because we work with so many designers and brands, we can see styles and trends before most people. This gives us a head start and allows us the opportunity to point our clients in the right direction.

Grandview Klein Diamond Group will be at the JCK ‘LUXURY’ Show in Las Vegas from June 8-13 at the Venetian.

Be sure to drop by booth LUX515 at the beginning of the show so you don’t miss out on the full selection.
