Proton X30 SUV – will Proton drop in price to compete with Perodua Ativa and Honda WR-V?

Since Perodua Ativa dominated the market for a B-size SUV in Malaysia, other automakers like Honda decided to follow suit to try to grab some of the Ativa’s sales.
A confirmed example is Honda WR-VAhas been trialled across Malaysia and is expected to be assembled locally at Honda’s Pegoh plant in Melaka.
So the question now is, if even Honda is chasing the Ativa SUV market share, will the Proton go down the market and play in that price range? Proton’s next launch is expected to be S50 . proton sedan, will the X30 come later?
There currently doesn’t appear to be a modern Geely model that could be a suitable funding vehicle for a potential Proton X30. If you go smaller than the Coolray (Proton X50), the next step below is small hatchbacks like the Geely Panda.
Meanwhile, Perodua seems to be making its way into the premium market with an upcoming model codenamed Perodua D66Bwhich many have begun to call Perodua Nexis.
