Price of Kia EV6, GM EV made in Michigan, Foxconn’s Lordstown: Car News Today

Foxconn is poised to help produce the Lordstown Endurance electric truck. The Kia EV6 is slightly more expensive than its Ioniq 5 sibling. And GM unveiled the next big step in scaling up production of electric trucks. This and more, here at Green car report.

GM on Tuesday announced plans to convert its Orion assembly plant in Michigan to Silverado EV production and an equivalent GMC pickup, starting in 2024. It also confirmed a third battery plant for Ultium Cells LLC’s joint venture with LG Energy Solution – located in Lansing, Michigan. The company is aiming to reach 1 million EV per year capacity by 2025 and 600,000 electric trucks between Orion and GM’s nearby “Factory Zero”.

The Kia EV6 2022 has a starting price of 42,115 USD in its base Light model, with rear-wheel drive and an EPA-rated 232-mile range. Versions with the larger battery pack are worth up to 310 miles, but those start at $48,215. Two-engine full-time four-wheel drive is on the menu for all but the base model, with a premium of $3,900 and up.

And the president of iPhone maker Foxconn says that its old GM factory in Ohio will remain manufactures (and distributes) Lordstown Endurance electric trucks later this year. Foxconn has big plans for its own electric vehicles — and a potential production contract for Fisker — so bringing electric pickups to production would be a first test.
