Fans of the 1970s Honda Trail 70 will appreciate the 2025 Honda Dax 125, a new miniMoto that’s retro-inspired but built with modern technology and features. The Dax 125 joins other miniMoto bikes in Honda’s lineup, such as the Grom, Monkey, Super Cub and Trail125.

The 1969 Honda CT70 Trail 70, known in Europe as the Dax, was a popular model that featured more aggressive styling than previous Trail models. It is equipped with a pressed steel “T-bone” frame, fat tires and folding handlebars. The CT model has sold more than 725,000 units in the US over three decades. Then in 2021, Honda brought the Trail125 as a tribute to the previous Trail series. The new Dax 125 brings back the aggressive design features of the Trail 70.

Regarding the Trail 70, Colin Miller, public relations director of American Honda, said: “This model has captured the hearts of many American customers, so it is appropriate that it returns as the Dax 125. . honors the original while introducing modern technology, performance and reliability. We are delighted to see it being embraced by US customers.”

The Dax 125 is powered by a 124cc air-cooled single engine with SOHC and two valves. It has a bore and stroke of 50.0×63.1mm and a compression ratio of 10.0:1. Honda claims that even when carrying a passenger, the Dax 125 can still reach a traveling speed of 55 mph.

The Dax 125 has a single catalytic converter, an upward-facing muffler with drilled and slotted chrome heat shield, and a 4-speed transmission with neutral on the bottom. The transmission is operated by a centrifugal clutch without the need for a clutch lever. The driver just needs to press the gear with the left foot lever and the clutch will automatically operate when the throttle is opened.

The highlight and special design feature of the Dax 125 is the pressed steel T-shaped frame, containing a 1.4 gallon fuel tank. Rake and trail angle are 27 degrees and 3.15 inches, and the wheelbase is 49.5 inches. The wet weight of the bike is 256 lb.

Suspension comes from a 27mm upside-down fork and twin shock absorbers. The Dax has black 12-inch rims borrowed from the Honda Grom, and the wheels are wrapped in ball-like tires that are 4.7 inches wide in the front and 5.1 inches wide in the rear. Hydraulic brake calipers combined with 220 mm front discs and 190 mm rear discs, single-channel ABS is standard.

In terms of styling, the Dax includes many vintage-inspired features. The thick seat measures 31.5 inches tall, making it wide enough for the rider and passenger, and the handlebars are chrome-plated and set high. The middle of the frame has a black stripe engraved with the word “Dax” with the Honda Wing logo next to it. Complementing the bike’s playful energy is a cartoon image of a Dachshund dog.

The Dax has chrome front fenders and round headlights. The display is a circular, recessed LCD and all lighting is LED. It includes a chrome-plated armrest for the passengers. A rear rack and heated grips are available as options.

The 2025 Honda Dax 125 will be available in Sparkling Pearl Blue or Pearl Gray for an MSRP of $4,199 and will arrive at dealerships in October.
