Vergil Ortiz 18-0 led a main event at Dickies’ Arena in Fort Worth, Texas on Saturday when he faced a fellow undefeated boxer, Mike McKinson 22-0. The battle is planned for 12 people in the welterweight division. The game opened with an accidental headbutt in the first game that left Ortiz with a nasty cut. The clumsy McKinson fired his shot southward for most of the second while Ortiz patiently picked his shots. While McKinson is certainly a slick boxer, Ortiz’s prowess seems to have proved too much for him in season three.

Ortiz tore McKinson apart in the fourth season. By the fifth inning, it looked like Ortiz simply broke his man. McKinson simply didn’t have an answer for the body pictures he was taking. With that being said, McKinson had a much better Friday. The seventh time was almost too close to call. McKinson boxed well while Ortiz could have his moments going into the body. That body work proved to tell the story in season eight, as it ultimately brought McKinson to the tapestry. However, the tough Englishman got up and was able to avoid Ortiz for the rest of the round.

McKinson dropped immediately early on the ninth day. He beat the count again, but clearly in very bad shape. McKinson took the corner wisely.
