Anthony Joshua signs contract with DAZN
Anthony Joshua will no longer be fighting on Sky Sports after it was announced today that the 32-year-old has signed with DAZN.
Streaming service made an announcement today describes it as a ‘breakthrough deal’. Joshua’s first fight on DAZN will be against the current three-belt heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk in their rematch on August 20. A win for ‘AJ’ in the Middle East would be the perfect way to start the partnership.
Joshua’s professional debut against Emanuele Leo was shown live on Sky Sports and the Olympic Gold Medalist has enjoyed a rewarding relationship with the television giants. His best nights against Dillian Whyte, Wladimir Klitschko and a rematch with Andy Ruiz were all successes for both sides.
Until a few weeks ago it was expected that he would extend his contract with Sky, but DAZN has made a big move to secure his services.
“I’m entering a new phase in my career with a new coaching environment, a new coach and now a new broadcaster.”
“Negotiations at this level take time so I’m glad it’s over and now I can fully focus on giving the fans and DAZN what they want, knockout continue in the flashy department.”
“I have been working with DAZN and following its progress for a long time. We’ve had a really successful partnership in the US for many years, and I know the team and understand the passion and drive of the business. ”
“DAZN’s vision and passion for innovation is what drew me to the partnership. They are leading the digital landscape in sports and the future of sports broadcasting. I really look forward to a long and successful partnership.”
The deal isn’t just about broadcast rights, Joshua has deepened his partnership with DAZN by becoming a shareholder, special advisor, and brand ambassador for the business.
