Porsche Vision 357 Speedster at the top of the classic homage

After unveiling the electric Vision 357 design concept in January as an homage to the iconic 356 model, Porsche has now revealed its convertible sibling.

The Porsche Vision 357 Speedy will debut live at this week’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Despite its old styling, it has radically modern technology taken directly from the electronic performance 718 GT4.

That means the inside will beat the all-electric heart of the Mission R concept, while its chassis comes from the 718 GT4 Clubsport.

That’s the opposite of fixed head concept from januaryusing a 4.0-liter flat-six engine.

For reference, the all-wheel-drive 718 Cayman GT4 ePerformance gets 735 kW of power from a dual-motor powertrain at full power or 450 kW in drive mode designed to allow for 30 minutes of continuous running.

Porsche says the Vision 357 concept models have a “monolithic” bodywork, and this is emphasized on the Speedster by the shortened windshield.

The right side of the cabin is covered by a tonneau visor, once common on convertible sports cars, while the front driver’s headrest is a carbon anti-roll unit.

Other reverse design cues include the rounded headlight shape and vertical grille style at the rear. The third brake light is integrated into this grille.

The camera replaces the traditional mirror and is positioned further forward on the fender, while the taillights sit behind a series of milled patterned spots on the bodywork.

The concept is finished in two gray tones: Marble Gray and Grivelo Metallic Gray. The latter can also be found on the front wheels and fenders, while the striking Miami Blue provides contrast.

The 20-inch magnesium wheels are fitted with carbon fiber hubs and central locking. They are designed to recall the 356 A and 356 B wheels.

Brighter colors can be found on the quick-release mechanisms of the front bonnet, as well as in the huge numbers painted on the car. It contrasts with the coupe concept, where the highlights are red.

In a whimsical touch, comic unicorns are placed in front of the rear wheel; they were written specifically for this concept by Porsche designers.

Inside, there’s a low driver’s seat with Racetex-wrapped pads, six-point belts with Miami Blue straps, and a carbon fiber-reinforced plastic shell integrated into the monocoque body.

The minimalist, driver-focused cabin also includes a transparent instrument cluster located atop the steering column.

The dashboard has a carbon fiber finish and features Miami Blue accents throughout the cabin. That includes straps in the upper right section designed to secure accessories, in lieu of a traditional glove compartment.

Porsche has also removed the usual door handles with simple fabric straps.

“Porsche Vision 357 is a combination of Porsche’s first line-up, Ferry Porsche’s dream sports car. And since the 356 has made its name on the collective brand memory as a convertible and a coupe, the same logic applies to the concept car: there can only be two,” said Michael Mauer. , said Porsche’s chief designer.

“The Porsche Vision 357 Speedster embodies the essence of the brand.

“Like the Mission X we introduced a few weeks ago, this model proves that even with new design genes, Porsche DNA shines.”

Porsche is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Festival of Speed not only with this concept, but also by showcasing the six winning cars at Le Mans; 356 No. 1 Roadster, the brand’s first sports car; and QUESTIONS X hypercar concept, among many other vehicles.

In total, it will have 15 new and classic models on display.
