Porsche Boxster electric for the first time spying

Porsche confirmed to the world earlier this year that 718 Boxster and Cayman electric in the middle of this decade. Today, we present you the first one shoot spies proof of such a transition in the form of an electric charge Boxer prototype.

Our spy shooters say they caught Electric Boxster on a test circuit, and the particular test car captured appears to be a relative early-stage prototype. The EV can’t be mistaken for anything but an electric Boxster, but the details are still pretty much the job of misleading and piecing together the camouflage.

With that said, there’s a lot to go on here considering the proportions of this Porsche. Its wheelbase and overall length already look bigger current generation 718 twins. That was most likely in an attempt to fit in a the battery packed on the car. Despite the looks, there may be some deception going on here in the form of artificial overhangs that obscure the actual shape and design of the front and rear bumpers. For the Boxster, both the front and rear overhangs look unusually long.

To point out some details at the rear, the electric Boxster appears to be equipped with full-width rear taillights. Also, the little exhaust cutout you see in the bottom center is pretty hilarious, as it’s just a fake plastic-looking insert – this test unit is definitely a pure EV. The rear proportions themselves are strong with the stout rear fender hiding some of the heavy rubber. We will also note that you will see two different prototype testers in these photos. One is rocking what looks like summer performance tires, and the other is buying winter tires across different wheel designs. The brake displayed under those wheels are quite large and have drilled propellers.

The dig into the details and everything you end up seeing here could very well be reserved for future spy shots as some of the camouflage is ripped off and more information about the production car is revealed. For now, enjoy a first look at the future for Porsche’s traditional mid-engined engine sports car.
