Swedish electric vehicle manufacturer pole star said on Thursday that it had signed an agreement with Tesla that will allow drivers of their electric vehicles to charge at about 12,000 Tesla charging stations in North America starting next year.

Most non-Tesla charging stations and electric vehicles in North America use a plug design called CCS, which stands for Combined Charging System. Reviewers also note that the CCS fast charge plug is significantly larger and heavier than the NACS plug, making it difficult for some elderly or disabled drivers to use.

Tesla EV can use CCS charger with adapter, but currently only Tesla EV can use Tesla charger.

Tesla’s plug design is proprietary until November, when the company publishes the technical details of the system and manufactures it. available to other automakers and EV charger manufacturers.

SAE International, a technical group that publishes standards for the auto industry, said earlier this week that it is in the process of writing public standards for Tesla’s NACS charging plugs.
