Better late than never? You wouldn’t think it would take long to see a crossover between Pokemon Trading Card Game and its widely available mobile counterpart, Pokemon GO. However, a special set of photos for the summer is still expected by many people. So all about what? Let’s get in.
One coat of primer
Like the previous vacation Celebration the setthe Pokemon GO expansion is a special promotion, mostly released in special box sets with pins and other extras. There’s also the Elite Trainer Box, which is the closest you can get to just getting a stack of booster packs.
It’s themed around mobile gaming, so that means a few things. Features the appearance of that game’s special characters and items! Artifacts sometimes use real world images! Understandably, it focuses on the original Kanto creatures and the craze surrounding the game’s first launch. However, it is not unique as such, mixing in several iconic Pokemon from later generations has made their presence known in the world. GO.
What makes the set special?
The selection of Trainer cards in the set largely tries to bring the concepts of GO to card form. For example, the Lure Module does what you think: attracts both players to play more Pokemon. On the other hand, a PokeStop is a Stadium card that allows the player to basically return to find Items every turn.
Also, in an eerie copy of GO mechanically, Ditto is in the package, but hidden. Some cards have stickers at the top, making them look like other monsters. The Ditto icon in the bottom left corner indicates you can pull out the sticker and find the Ditto below. Would you like, though? Having one intact with stickers seems cooler to us. Still, it’s nice to see the team trying.
Meltan and Melmetal appeared in TCG a few times, but GO-The exclusive evolutionary line has a large presence in the set. There are normal versions of them, as well as V and VMAX Melmetal forms.
Cards to see
This set is smaller in size than the regular expansion, but still has some interesting cards to find. Among the top rated pulls are probably three Shiny Pokemon. These shiny versions of Charizard, Venusaur, and Blastoise have some handy abilities, though you can only run one Radiant card in a deck.
Candela, Sparkand Blanche can be useful for card draws, omitting one of the three current standard draws to boost the energy in their signature color. They can certainly see frequent play in decks built around those types. And if you’re running them? You can pair them with their iconic legendary bird. Their new versions increase attack damage by 10 for your single-type party.
Alolan Exeggutor DRAW Lead an exciting team of competitive additions. Its Boost ability requires a coin flip, but adding five Grass energies however you want is well worth the risk. Speaking of energy acceleration, Dragonite VMAXThe Draconic Star skill gains all the Water and Electricity energy in the top 12 cards of your deck. You may only use it once, but it may be all you need.
