PNC Championship 2022: Charlie Woods advances to third-longest tee before two-round event

This weekend’s PNC Championship has a main event and I’m not sure if his name is Tiger, Jordan or Justin. No, the one everyone’s clamoring to see golf in Orlando at pro-am is Charlie Woods. Tiger’s son won on this day last year, narrowly overtaking John Daly and his son to win. After a year of improvement and a golf swing as good as for a teenager, he will be the main event in 2022.

Humorously, there is some controversy (if you want to call it that) about which tee box Charlie will play. In an event attended by an 11-year-old and an 87-year-old man, there will be many tees to be played. Initially, Charlie was supposed to play the second-longest tee boxes, but the tournament committee bumped into him for the third longest, according to Golf Channel. The field that is expected to be played is about 6,400 yards from where he will tee off.

Tiger admitted last week that Charlie had recently passed him, so I’m not sure if the second-longest tee (about 6,700 yards) is an issue. Younger Woods will likely dominate from 6,400 yards.

Although Tiger only competed in his fifth event in 2022, his son remains the talk of the tournament even among other competitors.

Jordan Spieth’s father, Shawn, said: “Whoever we play with is going to be a fun thing and it’s going to be a lot of fun. “Is Charlie wearing it 260 or 290? Everyone wants to know which one it is, so it will be fun, or more, after the last two weeks.”

“Charlie,” Padraig Harrington replied when asked about Woods he was more interested in seeing the swing. From the PNC transcript:

“Actually, to be honest, it’s definitely Charlie, Charlie, Charlie. But it’s kind of weird, after watching Tiger in The Match, for me, at a little bit more speed and more, like, you never doubted Tiger’s mentality, and that’s always where he can come back, and you don’t want to give up — like physically he looked better in that game and the pace.

“And you know me, obviously I’m interested in those things. You know, you’d never send Tiger away, but I really think he could be even better than that — in a good place. So I’m definitely going to be sneaking a peek at Tiger, but Charlie, to be honest, I’m more interested in Charlie.

“That’s very exciting for a 13-year-old boy. And he did it when he was 11 years old. It’s hard to support corners on a golf swing when you don’t have — at 11, he was. can hold the club on the right Like most good kids aged 11, 12, 13, their swing isn’t even developed yet.

“Like I bet you if you go back and look at Rory at 12, he’s hitting a very crazy, you know, drop shot. Because that’s what they do, kids. But Charlie always tries to put pressure on the golf ball, which is special at that age. It really is. .”

Just a three-time major champion looking forward to seeing the swing. No pressure or anything.

Regardless, the Charlie-Tiger pairing – one of the favorites to win the PNC 5-1 – will be an intriguing matchup on both accounts. Charlie, because he’s Tiger’s son and obviously has a knack for golf, and Tiger, because he’s the best ever to do it and any chance of seeing him on stage. The sunset of his extraordinary career is always a gift.
