Photo book in seconds «Joe McNally Photography

Time passes fast. Heard that one before, for sure. The truth over and over again, because, it’s the truth. It always has been, but now, as our lives continue to accelerate into 2022 and beyond, those two words are more relevant than ever. We live in a constant cycle of news throughout the day. We surf the internet with a nonstop tap, touch, touch, as fast as our index finger can fly. According to a recent study, our attention span is now reduced to about 8 seconds.

For photographers, always on the lookout for those precious, fleeting moments that the world presents to us, and which we often miss, we know all too well how quickly time flies. Missed it! Change lenses absolutely. Missed again. Hey, over here! While something better is happening there. While we talk or reflect on “seizing the moment,” the moment disappears. Let’s face it. Our success rate of THE shot is quite low.

ONE Photobook captured moments, moments of success in a second, is a wonderful thing. At this time of year, I look back at photos from the past year that in some way have been considered successful, and I have roughly increased the shutter speed. It is usually less than a second in total time. This year, with a one-time exposure, the result is fine, it’s a few seconds. A few seconds in a year.

I sent my favorite set of seconds to Printique, and back is a beautiful book. Five in my hand, not on the screen. It’s a hardcover Photobook, 10 X12.5, 42 pages, printed in multiple tones on glossy paper. (You have a wide selection of styles of reproduction, presentation, layout, etc.) Annie Cahill, possessing excellent graphic acumen, arranged the images and pages and allowed editing. color. Touch one finger on the computer, it is sent. A back box, tied with a ribbon. A few seconds on a bunch of pages.

Sit with them now. A wonderfully printed book. A change. A breakwater in the vibrant ocean of our lives.

The accessibility and excellence of Printique, not to mention their ease of use, opened up a whole new realm at our studio. In the years that passed, I was never able to assemble my Olympic images into a binding book. They simply sit, disconnecting bits and pieces on the hard drive, whirling and thrashing in the background of our office. Now that they are together, on a coffee table, slices of color, grace and power to be remembered. A book. It is said that a photograph can be a window or a mirror. ONE Photobook both, all at the same time.

Working with two outstanding athletes at the beginning of the year. Dan Anderson and Dasha Anderson, both teachers and martial arts experts. Monochrome seems appropriate for this spread and Printique repro holds the timbre gracefully and well.

POW and color intensity make these two photos work side by side and also the symmetry of the square format.

The Olympics are a highlight of 2021 – a must include! It’s always difficult to make selections but like these two playing against each other because of the energy of the blue swirl on the left chooses with the roundness of the shape in the fisheye shot.

Another splash of color and a wonderful memory of Coney Island as the summer air breathes life into us all.

Lengthwise and crosswise! Both shot with the Nikon Z 9. Samples provided by Printique offers multiple options and freedom to match dissimilar shapes on one experience.

With all the details from corner to corner, had to give zombie friends full blood in the spread!

Same here with the lovely Marisa and has a landscape photo that makes a bloody page for herself. Happy to split the flow in different sizes/shapes.

Beauty and grace. Two very talented and beautiful women that I have had the honor of photographing over the years. Mixing colors and black and white representations here on an experience, I think works…. Great way to pair these great personalities. Rita and Sharon. At our first meeting, the subject of the photograph, is now… dear friends.

More, at industry conferences and gatherings, questions are raised about Photobook. My friend and editor, Ted Waitt, belong to Rocky Nook Publishing House, will actually come to Winery this spring and talk to the participants about the overwhelming power of Photobook, and the importance of collecting and printing your photos. Static, durable, indelible ink on paper. A book that is a thought-provoking re-enactment from the frenzied chase chase. A beautiful reminder of the times when we have succeeded, or have come close. Our collective efforts have dominated our sense of urgency on the road, in the studio, on the playground. It was exhausting, remember? A process of anxiety and worry, after these photos. Now they are in your hands. Breathe. The year 2022 is upon us. Camera is waiting.
