Rivian is working with hotel company Under Canvas to offer electric vehicle charging at its points of sale.
Under the partnership, Rivian will offer Waypoint Level 2 chargers at Under Canvas locations in Utah, located near two popular outdoor destinations: Moab and Lake Powell.
The sites offer a more upscale alternative to traditional camping, seemingly matching Rivian’s high-priced electric all-terrain vehicles. As the name suggests, guests sleep in large tents but they also have access to “indoor luxuries,” according to the company’s website.
According to Under Canvas’ press release, the chargers will be ready for opening days at both locations (March 3 and March 10). According to Canvas, charging will be free between those dates and Earth Day (April 22), but did not detail what the charges will be after that.

Rivian has basically set up backcountry equivalent to Tesla Supercharging—Ready for trips into the wilderness, not across the Interstate. Charged access is a privilege of Rivian Membershipregistration service, which the company believes will be a key differentiator for the brand in the future.
Under Canvas is just one of many partners. Rivian just announced a partnership with a California nonprofit for some locations in California—Including Yosemite.
Of course, all those chargers would be meaningless without a means of using them.
Rivian starts to deliver Pickup truck R1T the end of last year, and has steadily increased in number. The R1S SUV is expected to launch soon. Rivian has not announced any other retail models, but will also build electric delivery vans for Amazon, which owns a small stake in the company.
