Under Florida law, there are 16 aggravating circumstances that can be used to justify the imposition of a death sentence. For example, murders must be considered particularly heinous or committed in a cold, premeditated manner. At least one of these factors must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt for the defendant to be executed.
